February 1st… realllly?

Time flies. enough said.

So yesterday I really sucked at taking food pictures. I woke up, ate oatmeal, forgot to bring my camera– oops! then, I went back to bed (haha), woke up, watched some tv, got lunch, went to study with Gar, and…. forgot my camera. ha. Fortunately after studying, when snack time came around, I had the camera in hand!

Chobani plain 2% with frozen grapes, a mix of kashi honey puffs & marshmallow oaties, and almond butter

I love frozen grapes.. so good!

After that, I had humo practice (not sumo… HAHA rachael) which was pretty good. I picked up dinner at one of my favorite restaurants on campus- Sunroom Cafe. I decided to try the veggie burger with cheese.

The veggie burger was ok, by the time I went back to my room to eat it, it was kind of dry :-\ just LOOK at the size of that bun though! haha

Then I watched the Grammy’s and frustratingly worked on econ with my romommate- soo hard!

Oh my gosh, Lea Michele looked so gorgeous at the Grammy’s!!

She is my new celebrity obsession! I love that I feel like she has a ‘real’ body and isn’t sickly thin!

I was really about to not eat my evening snack- I felt “bloated” and “full” but then I read this girl’s post and realized I had to! (thanks girl)

I also had a spoonful of cinnamon raisin swirl on the side. This bar was pretty good. It really was chewy- almost too chewy :-\ It didn’t have as strong of a peanut butter taste as I would have liked but overall it was tasty and fit into my meal plan well (which is always a plus).

For breakfast this morning I had oatmeal!! 2 instant pack oats, banana, cinnamon raisin swirl & hazelnut spread, raisins, and a skim milk on the side

Then my Monday schedule has been freakin’ busy!! I had zoology, then music 101, then econ 101 discussion, then an optional review session for zoology! I finally got done at 1:30 and was hunnngry.

Lunch was quick and thoughtless. Turkey with swiss cheese on whole wheat bread with a tablespoonish of honey mustard, honey graham bunnies, pretzels, a pickle and an apple!

Now i’m just taking some down time beore I do work and have a sorority meeting tonight!

I know a lot of bloggers do this, but I would love to open up my blog for Question & Answer 🙂 I think it would be fun!! So ask away anything you want- i’m pretty open! I’ll answer two questions per post for now on!

I look forward to hearing what you want to know about!

1) Well, first, Ask me anything!!

2) What celebrity do you look up to and why?

3) What do you do to slow things down when you feel like time if flying by?

Have great weeks!!

i like the oreo flavored kashi bar WAY better. but it definitely is still super chewy.

i agree – lea michele is a great role model and so pretty! i am also loving kristen bell – i think she’s fit and healthy looking too 🙂

    Hiiiii Darling!
First off, I’ve never heard of Lea Michele, but she is such a beautiful WOMAN.

I admire Beyonce, because she is healthy, successful and dating Jay Z 😉

She did look gorgeous last night. I loved the dress. Her legs were bangin! I love huge carby buns. I could go for one right now 🙂

  6. Heather February 1, 2010 at 4:13 pm #

Yum your bowl of oats looks like breakfast heaven. When I feel all sped up and overwhelmed I try to go on a walk or close my eyes and just take a minute to refocus. Ya know what… it usually works 🙂

  7. homecookedem February 1, 2010 at 4:13 pm #

I know, crazy that it’s already February, right? Lea Michele is gorgeous, but I’m embarrassed to say, I have no idea who she is!! Time to google it, haha!! 🙂 I love those kashi bars, but haven’t gotten any in awhile. I forgot all about them, thanks for the reminder! 😉

So, I’m not gonna lie I’ve totally been a lurker on your blog for the longest time :)… just too scared to comment… Oddly enough I feel like I’m in the exact same position as you (same-ish “story”, approx. weight, height, and point in the recovery process).. at least.. from what I can tell… it’s almost a little weird actually!

anyways, I was wondering, how do you deal with eating so much.. and also consuming… certain.. beverages :).. if you catch my drift.

don’t you feel so full and gross all the time that it stops you from doing this?
or maybe you never did in the first place?
I don’t know, I’m really struggling with this, I feel as if eating so much food is sort of …hindering my social life.

if you feel more comfortable emailing me instead that’s fine too..

keep up the good work girly your blog/eats look great

Great to hear that you made the right decisions:) I would like to hear something about you that is really extraordinary, special, strange or unique:)

Her legs look fab in that dress!!

As for a question….what’s your biggest pet peeve? Mine is when I’m talking on the phone to someone (MOM) and I can hear them typing on the keyboard. Grrrrrr

My celebrity is currently Carrie Underwood. Beautiful, well spoken, and humble. Doesn’t get any better. And Dakota Fanning because that little girl is TALENTED and poised.

When I was growing up, people always told me I looked like Gabby Hoffman. (She was in Now and Then.) Apparantly, I must’ve really looked like her because people I didn’t know would stop me, thinking I was her!

  13. adrienmelaine February 1, 2010 at 4:31 pm #

I love how inspired you are- think of you each day!

  14. Abby February 1, 2010 at 4:35 pm #

That veggie burger (bun) is makin me hungry.. looks fabulous.. yummy lunch, hun!!!

I agree with you about Lea Michele, she is gorgeous. I am currently obsessed with Alicia Silverstone ever since I saw her on Oprah.. she is so healthy looking and seems genuinely sweet and happy! 🙂

  15. seekmyself February 1, 2010 at 4:36 pm #

It’s great that you didn’t skip your evening snack, Shelley! I know it sucks big time eating when you don’t feel like it, but our bodies need it. Eventually, there will come a time we no longer have to do so 🙂 I can’t wait…

The question I want to ask you is what was the main motivating factor behind your decision to begin recovery?

And to slow things down, I like to do some gentle yoga and really focus on deep breathing… trying to forget about everything else and just focus on breathing in and out.

  16. Stef @ moretolifethanlettuce February 1, 2010 at 4:52 pm #

kashi doesn’t mess around, when they say chewy they mean chewy and when they say crunch they mean crunch! i swear my jaw almost falls off everytime i eat go lean crunch lol. i love lea michelle too! know what’s funny? you actually look a lot like her 🙂 gorgeous ladies! oh and re: bolani…they are soooooo good i wish you could taste em! i would totally ship them out to bloggers to try if they weren’t perishable, lol. i usually eat them as a mini meal, because they are BIG! in my pics they’re folded over in half, if that gives you a better idea of their size. the filling contains olive oil i think, and protein from the lentil ones, and obviously carbs, so i think it’s a fairly complete meal but i usually add some veggies/fruit to round it out.

  17. L February 1, 2010 at 5:27 pm #

    1. How are you dealing with gaining weight and what about clothes, they must be tighter, how do you deal with this anxiety?
    2. Do you have a BMI that you must attain?
    3. You used to run, how are you dealing with seeing others run or hear about it on blog?
    4. What are your favorite tv shows?

  18. Morgan February 1, 2010 at 5:27 pm #

Lea Michele looked AMAZING. She rocked all of the red carpets this year!

Haha when you said Feb 1, Reallly? (emphasis on the realllllly) I couldn’t agree more!

&OMG I agree Lea Michele looked GORGEOUS on the Grammy’s- she too is my new celeb fav 🙂
anddd I love Honey Graham Bunnies- they are my obsession.

  21. Jenna February 1, 2010 at 6:20 pm #

  22. kbwood February 1, 2010 at 6:47 pm #

good for you for eating that snack! you needed it-and proud of you girl!
hmm many! what was your BIGGEST motivation for starting recovery?!
i LOVE that girl on glee-she looks awesome! i love sandra bullock because she is so cool and so real!

  23. katie February 1, 2010 at 7:00 pm #

Lea is hot!! The grammys rock! Lady GaGa I love!! She is crazy but awesome!!!

You are super busy girl!!!!! I was exhausted reading the post, lol!!!!

I hope you have a great week!!!! xoxoxo

What is your favorite food in the world??

How did you and your man meet?

  24. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine February 1, 2010 at 7:17 pm #

Ugh, econ- so not fun! Glad to hear about your snack success!

    1. How did you and Gar meet/start dating? I’m a sucker for sappy stories 🙂
    2. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Kate Winslet…she’s gorgeous and confident, an amazing actress, and has never done anything typically “celebrity” like going through public relationships or selling out to tabloids. She’s so classy and such a good role model…plus it doesn’t hurt that she’s in my favorite movie 🙂
    3. I usually need to remind myself to slow down and stop wishing time would move FASTER!

    Have a great week girl!

  25. candice February 1, 2010 at 7:25 pm #

Yeesh, we’re already a month into 2010! >< And as February is the shortest month, it'll be March before you know it… eek. I'm still young—why do I feel like time is flying by?!

I luurrrve frozen grapes, too. They used to be one of my favorite snacks, but I think I'm too lazy to make them now! When I'm hungry, I want my snack. Now. lol, I’m quite impatient when it comes to food, except if I have good conversation to tide me over x)

That celebrity looks gorgeous! I don’t really keep up with celeb news except briefly at the grocery store checkout, so I don’t have any role models.

  26. Lexi February 1, 2010 at 7:39 pm #

That celebrity pic you posted… that girl looks great! So healthy looking, I love it. I totally look up to her!

    Hmmm a question for you..
what was your favorite dessert pre ED? do you plan on challenging yourself with this food any time soon?

    Have a great night!

  27. theemptynutjar February 1, 2010 at 7:45 pm #

oh, i love love your eats….wish we had chobani and those kashi go lean bars here 😦
    you are so amazing girl…seriously
i am having trouble now too cause i am never ever hungry…i eat my meals in like 15 minutes (when it ought to take 30 mins at least cuz they are SO big)…i feel bloated and pregnant…it feels so abnormal to force myself to eat…i feel like its all wrong.. 😦
questions: – do u eat in the cafeteria a there with friends or prep food in your dorm?
-how long u been going with gar?
    – what year school are u in and whatcah doing?
    – sisters or brothers?
    – do u still need to gain?
    – what is your “fear” food?
    – how many cals are u taking in? (u dont have to answer if u dont want…i understand that)
    – yeh, lea michelle is so pretty…i actually was impressed by all the female singers that emanate strength vs. skinny…pink, beyonce, lady gaga, rihanna…sheryl crowe, fergie…they are strong u know vs. skinny (like nicole richie or something). luv ya girl.

  28. crazylittlethingneela February 1, 2010 at 7:53 pm #

thank god i never took econ 😉 hehe!
i slow things down by taking a break everyday for myself. if i work al the time i feel as if time goes by waaay to fast. by taking just a couple of min out to breath i feel more in control of what’s going on in my life

  29. Meg February 1, 2010 at 8:12 pm #

Never commented, but feel some very similar thoughts on the recovery stuff. I am trying to do it on my own, and have had some luck. If you love musicals, you must go see Spring Awakening. It is by far the best musical I have every seen (and I am kind of a dork about broadway!) It was actually where Lea Michelle got her start.

Anyways, can you tell us more about your meal plan. I google IOP when you talked about it, but am still confused about all of your exchange stuff. Again, I think you are such an inspiration (I am 23 and it feels a little weird saying this, but it’s true!)

  30. Danielle February 1, 2010 at 8:14 pm #

    I love the Q&As on other people’s blogs 😀 Ok so…

1.) How do your friends react in regard to your eating habits? Do they poke fun at you for being too “healthy?” Are they jealous? Are they supportive?

2.) How do you feel about alcohol + college in regards to a healthy lifestyle?

…those are all the questions I can think of right now lol

  31. Ada February 1, 2010 at 8:27 pm #

Ugh I was supposed to take econ this semester but I dropped it. Good luck, I’m sure you will do well!

All of your eats look amazing as usual, your sandwiches always look professionally made;)

    My question:
What foods did you hate as a child?

  32. The Candid RD February 1, 2010 at 8:29 pm #

Oh how fun! I don’t know that I have a favorite celebrity, but when I was a kid I wanted to be an actress and I was obsessed with Kirsti Alley (RANDOM!!!). I really like Jerry Seinfeld, and Ellen Degeneres.
Question for YOU: How many siblings do you have, and where do you see yourself in ten years?

  33. psychoj1 February 1, 2010 at 8:47 pm #

Great post! Don’t worry about a lack of pics! It happens to the best of us 🙂

  34. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) February 1, 2010 at 9:12 pm #

chewy bar. i like those. almost too chewy. hmmm thanks for the info!

I am so past the age of looking up to celebrities…but alicia silverstone is bringing attention to raw vegan lifestyle and choices and being more conscious about where our food comes from and that rocks!

  35. whydeprive February 1, 2010 at 10:51 pm #

Time IS flying! It still feels like high school was yesterday – and here I am just 3 years away from my 10 year reunion. Crazy.
Im obsessed with Victoria Beckham. Yes I know shes stick thin, but that has nothing to do with why I admire her. She is amazingly strong, and surprisingly funny. I read her autobiography and I dont think you could read it, and NOT love her.

  36. Hillary February 1, 2010 at 10:53 pm #

    1) What are you studying in school? Where do you go to school?

    2) I look up to Taylor Swift b/c she is REAL & you never hear any trash about her in the tabloids.

    ❤ Hillary

  37. Sara K February 1, 2010 at 11:22 pm #

Looks like our schedules are similar on mondays! I feel ya on the econ being hard- I had to make all these diagrams on elasticity for my hw…ughhhh.
Haha our eats are super similar too- the cinnaraisin PB 🙂
Hmmmm…question: if you had to live abroad anywhere in the world for one year, where would you choose?

  38. justjac February 2, 2010 at 12:03 am #

mmmmmm yum love cinn raisin swirl! 😀

how long have you and gar been together slash how did you meet?

how many people in your life know about the blog and/or your “gertrude?”

  39. justjac February 2, 2010 at 12:04 am #

  40. chrysta February 2, 2010 at 12:06 am #

omg! your breakfast with oats, raisins, hazelnut spread and bananas looks so awesome girl! Lovin it. I cant believe its already Feb! crazy how fast its flying. Lea M. does look awesome. I love seeing happy and healthy celebs and not stickly looking ones. After seeing that pic she is def. my new fav! Have an awesome evening!

  41. melonshot. February 2, 2010 at 12:46 am #

    hola pretty girl!
way to go for eating your snack 😀 Blogs are great for inspiring, i think 🙂

I go to the hospital tomorrow to be assessed. And back again the next day. Hopefully starting treatment on the 10th. I will keep you updated on what kind of treatment I do..
my room mate is scared I wont make it until the 10th 😦 I wanted to go to emergency last night .. i was scared i wasnt going to wake up this morning..

oh my gosh. honey. i am so so so sorry for posting my life on your blog ❤

QUESTION TIME ❤ because i love these.
    1. what did you always want to be when you grew up??
    2. favourite perfume?
    3. biggest fear food you faced, still face, and or now love?

  42. ilanalala February 2, 2010 at 1:49 am #

I love Lea Michelle! When I saw her a few years back on Broadway in Spring Awakening, my boyfriend kept insisting she looked just like me but I didn’t believe him until I saw Glee! Her character on Glee reminds me so much of myself when I was in high school… I love how much healthier and real Broadway actresses look than some of the Hollywood waifs.

  43. Bri February 2, 2010 at 1:56 am #

Beyonce is definitely up there for one of my female role models. She is very confident in herself and what she does and she carries herself very nicely! Plus she’s a celebrity that actually has curves & flaunts them to her greatest ability!

  44. gateauxbellehelene February 2, 2010 at 5:29 am #

What a great idea! And well done for feeling strong enough to eat that snack. I know the ‘bloated/full’ feeling so well and often used it as an excuse not to eat.
    1) Well, first, Ask me anything!! – What are your plans for the future, jobs etc.

    2) What celebrity do you look up to and why? I think Hayden Panettiere (is that right?) from Heroes. She too is slim but not Hollywood-super skinny. Although I agree Lea is beautiful. I love her in Glee!

    3) What do you do to slow things down when you feel like time if flying by? I like to take a long walk in countryside as it gives me time to think and sort out my life!

  45. Rachel February 2, 2010 at 6:12 am #

Gosh. Is it saying something that when I look at your posts, suddenly eating what I am supposed to is easier (less ED thoughts)…because I know YOU can–and still enjoy life–therefore I should be able to too! 🙂 Love you, Shelley! Inspiration that you are<3

I do admire celebrities who don't conform to the stick-thin 'norm' that Hollywood calls for…the irony is that these 'defiant' celebs often turn out to be the smarter and more responsible role models that we should look up to, instead of those flaunting their collarbones over their acting skills. (But I digress)

    I have questions!!!
-what are you majoring in? (seeing you study for all those many subjects has gotten me confused)
    -what's humo?!?!

  46. Laura February 2, 2010 at 8:13 am #

See…this is why I blog. Because posts like this make me WANT to do better!!

  47. Naomi (onefitfoodie) February 2, 2010 at 8:17 am #

love this post and she is GEORGEOUS!!! I love beyonce, along the same linse as you, she has a real body and embraces her curves and she is a fabulous role model. She stays out from all of the drama and does her thanggg. That veggie burger bun is HUGE! haha…is there a burger under there 🙂

question for you–what do you want to be when you grow up? where doyouwant to live when you have a family?

good for youeating that kashi bar even though you were about NOT too 🙂 keep it up shelley

  48. Karin February 2, 2010 at 8:31 am #

i can’t believe that it’s February either.. Time flies indeed.
These oats look fantastic btw. 🙂 I just realized that I went four days straight (I think) without oats. What’s wrong with me?? 😉
Oh I ADORE Alexander Skarsgard (it’s ok to choose a male celebrity, right? ;)). Not because he’s handsome (ok… maybe also because of that) but he’s really charming, humble and down to earth.
    What’s your favourite country?

  49. MelissaNibbles February 2, 2010 at 8:32 am #

I don’t look up to celebrities. I think it’s impossible to look up to someone you don’t know. Celebrities are just an image created by their “team”.

How long have you and your man been together? How did you meet?

  50. blueeyedheart February 2, 2010 at 9:43 am #

I feel your econ pain too; I was a psych major, but I had to take econ… stupid cores.

Well done on eating your evening snack despite not wanting to do it; it’s the little things like that which really make a difference.

    ❤ ❤

  51. rebecca lustig February 2, 2010 at 11:59 am #

Oh, I’m an idiot. OF COURSE I know who Lea Michele is– Rachel on Glee, duh. hahah, just had to point that out

    have a terrific day!

  52. daintyvegan February 2, 2010 at 12:31 pm #

Haha.. when you showed the picture of the veggie burger I was stuck staring in confusion because I couldn’t see it due to the huge bun!

I like Hayden Panettiere. She’s not an amazing actress or extremely famous but to me she is gorgeous and has a normal, healthy body. What’s not to love?

  53. Kelly February 2, 2010 at 12:45 pm #

I love Heidi Klum…there is something about her that seems real to me. Plus she is so obviously in love with her husband that is makes me smile when ever I see them!! And I know she is thin (obviously she’s a supermodel) but I don’t feel like she is so skinny that she looks sick. I feel like she still has some curves and she rocks them!

  54. Cassie February 2, 2010 at 1:08 pm #

I love Sarah Jessica Parker. She has a unique look, and she always seems so fit.

  55. funfashionista February 2, 2010 at 1:26 pm #

yay for the honey mustered!!! haha great job. i cant believe i have never heard of that celebrity before??? she is so pretty and natural! my favorite celebrity right now is audrina patridge. i love how she is so naturally pretty too. i hope your having a great day girl

  56. Nutritious Foodie February 2, 2010 at 2:04 pm #

    What are you majoring in?

The other two.. I have to think… lol

  57. Simply Life February 2, 2010 at 2:07 pm #

I love reading a good book and writing in a journal to slow things down and relax 🙂

  58. Kay February 2, 2010 at 5:32 pm #

oh my gosh that huge bun looks really really good 😀 haha sorry to hear the veggie burger was just okay.

  59. Anna February 2, 2010 at 6:19 pm #

I LOVE Lea Michele. Her voice sounds somewhat digitized on Glee, but she is a Broadway star originally, so there are so many youtube vids of her singing live and it is crazzzzaayy!!

I guess I have a fun question: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

One “celebrity” I adore is Meryl Streep. To me, she is not so much a celebrity as she is an actor with incredibly high profile gigs haha 🙂

To slow down, I either take a super quick walk, make some tea, call home, stare out the window, or think of what I’m going to write for the bloggy!

  60. Sarah February 2, 2010 at 8:06 pm #

Lea Michelle did look gorgeous! And your food looks fabulous. Yum.

  61. Allie (Live Laugh Eat) February 2, 2010 at 10:05 pm #

You sorta look like Lea Michelle 🙂 You both have pretty dark hair and eyes!

I’ve never tried those Kashi Chewy bars..don’t know why since I’ve seen them a jillion times.

  62. caronae February 2, 2010 at 10:15 pm #

Mmmm, I love kashi bars! And oatmeal. And yogurt. Pretty much I love everything you eat!

  63. justjac February 2, 2010 at 11:49 pm #

Hey I’m hosting a secret Valentine’s Day exchange on my blog. I hope you’ll participate!!!

  64. sophia February 3, 2010 at 1:02 am #

Eh…is Jesus Christ a celebrity? I look up to Him. hee hee…sorry, I just don’t find any particular celebrity right now that strikes out to me as a good role model. I don’t know who Lea Michele is though, so it may also be in part be because of my ignorance….;-)

Question: Is there any certain fear food you’re willing to conquer within the next few months?

What do you foresee yourself doing after recovery?

  65. Amy February 3, 2010 at 9:50 am #

Hey! Love love love your blog, Shelley. A few questions:

    1. I’d love to hear more about Gar and his role in your recovery – how open are you with him, was it hard to talk about your ED at first, how has he been able to support/help you to regain health, etc.?

    2. What do you want to be “when you grow up”? 😉

    3. How do you keep yourself so positive and motivated, so you don’t slip into your old habits whenever you have a bad day?

    4. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

    • Shelley (findinghappinessandhealth) February 3, 2010 at 1:10 pm #

girl you were comment # 3000… thanks 😀
